What are the largest internal hard drives I can get for a PS3? I’m in the US and use a regular Slim. Both spinning platter and SSDs (unless an SSD is way better).
The maximum size you can fit in there is a 2TB HDD, at least with phat consoles. What I did was get a laptop hard drive and put it into a phat console's HDD casing. From here, I ran a partition fixer and formatted the HDD. I also bought a USB 1TB External HDD. It seems like I overkilled it, but considering how many games I download, it is

Step 6: Safely Disconnecting the External Hard Drive from the PS3. When you’re finished using your external hard drive with the PS3, it’s important to properly disconnect it to ensure the safety of your data. Follow these steps to safely disconnect the external hard drive from the PS3: Make sure the PS3 is powered off.

If I'm remembering correctly from my hard drive hunt a little over a year ago, the maximum size of hard drive you can install on a PS3 is 1.5TB. For some reason the 2TB hard drives don't work. You need something that is 9.5mm or thinner as well. This is a good option for the 1TB (which is what I went with) and this is a good option for the 1 jihad_dildo CECHK04 | CECHA12 • 4 yr. ago. you can put 1tb but you will lose about 100gb due to the way the PS3 uses hard disks. So out of the 920 something gb you will only get about 830 something gb usable. srbman • 4 yr. ago. All PS3 models support the same 2.5" HDDs. I think the limit is 1TB though I could be wrong. Simplest way for me is while having the game in folder format, make a folder called GAMES in a FAT32 usb flash drive, drop the game folder in it, and then when you go to multiman's file manager, copy and paste the folder of the game you want to have on the internal HDD inside a folder called GAMES in devhdd0. alex_co. nope you copied it to your internal, ps2 games cant be run from external unless i believe if they are psn games installed on GAMEI folder from external and using Ext Game DATA from WebMAN. Awfully specific process and not recommenden, most games don't support it even ps3 ones.

the ONLY way to go is western digital mybook/elements external hard drives. they can easily be formatted into MBR/fat32 (with the help of Wd's format utility and gui formatter) you can then use split isos and use huge drives for the ps3. I have a 4tb external myself and it works absolutely flawlessly. split iso fixes every single problem.
